Is Colin really a fashion icon?

Traditionally we have seen retailers internationalising from a highly developed retail market to a less well developed retail market...  But as markets around the world are developing there are opportunities for innovative retailers from less developed retail markets to expand globally...  One such retailer has come to my attention - Colin's clothing, nope no joke, Colin's clothing from Turkey has big ambitions including 100 stores in the UK.  While a Turkish clothing retailer is well placed in terms of supply chain the big question here is - would you buy your clothes from Colin?!

  1. The possibilities that I will buy anything from this Turkish retailer are extremely low.. but I have my own reasons for that, which are not relevant for this topic.
Printed Tee's for £8, quilted jackets for up to £120...? What makes them think they can compete with Cult or Republic?!

  2. Hey Jeff, wanted to make my own comments regarding the case. It is true that an objective such as opening 100 stores in the UK will be quite challenging for the company. Although 100 stores do not sound very realistic, I strongly believe that Colin's will create at least some success. After all, it should be kept in mind that a big portion of Colins' turnover is generated in another foreign market which is Russia, where the company is regarded to be the no.1 youth fashion brand among European and other international clothing retailers. And also there is a successful case to be examined; a similar Turkish clothing retailer expanded to US about 10-15 years ago with a claim to become one of the top brands in the US market which was considerably unrealistic for that time. To everyone's surprise, products of Mavi Jeans is preferred and worn even by celebrities today. It will be interesting to observe how Colin's proceeds in the UK.
